About the data

Every fact on doctorfinder.uk comes from an official public source. This page lists each one, its licence, and what we do and do not do with it.

doctorfinder.uk is a directory. It republishes public records. It does not rate providers itself, take bookings, publish reviews of named people, or give medical advice. Where a figure is shown, the source and the date we retrieved it are shown with it.

Care Quality Commission ratings

Source: Care Quality Commission published data. Licence: Open Government Licence v3.0, commercial reuse permitted. Last retrieved: 2026-08-30.

The CQC inspects and rates health and social care providers in England. It uses four rating bands:

A provider can also be Inspected but not rated, or have no published rating yet. The CQC does not issue a star rating; any site showing stars for a CQC rating has invented them.

Rating history

We keep every published rating for a provider, not only the current one, and show the sequence so you can see whether a provider has improved or declined between inspections.

Ratings for hospitals in an NHS trust

An NHS trust runs several hospitals, each inspected separately, and the sites can hold different ratings. Where a trust is shown in a list, the rating displayed is noted with the site it comes from. Open the trust or hospital page for the full picture.

What we do not do

We do not reproduce inspection-report narrative about individual staff, and we do not combine CQC ratings with other figures into a single score of our own. Each figure stands on its own, attributed.

NHS waiting times

Source: NHS England Consultant-led Referral to Treatment (RTT) waiting times. Licence: Open Government Licence v3.0. Last retrieved: 2026-08-30.

RTT measures the time from GP referral to the start of treatment for NHS-funded care. We show, per provider per specialty:

These are the figures as published by NHS England, shown with the month they cover.

Trust figures, not hospital figures

An NHS trust runs several hospitals and reports one set of waiting times for the whole trust, not one per hospital. On a single hospital's page we show the parent trust's figures, labelled "trust-wide". The wait at that specific hospital may be shorter or longer.

What RTT does not tell you

It covers NHS-funded care only. It does not describe private appointment availability. Independent providers are listed without a waiting-time figure because none is published; appointment times there are set by the provider.

The waiting time is reported by the provider that treats you, not by where you live. Figures are aggregated across all the areas whose patients that provider treats.

Friends and Family Test

Source: NHS England Friends and Family Test. Licence: Open Government Licence v3.0. Last retrieved: 2026-08-30.

The FFT asks patients a single question: would you recommend this service to friends and family. We show the percentage who would, per trust, for inpatient care, A&E, and outpatient appointments, with the number of responses. It is the closest thing to a review that is official, aggregate, and does not name individuals. It is not a formal performance measure; response rates vary a lot between services and trusts.

Mortality (SHMI)

Source: NHS Digital Summary Hospital-level Mortality Indicator, an Accredited Official Statistic. Licence: Open Government Licence v3.0. Last retrieved: 2026-08-30.

The SHMI covers a rolling 12-month period, shown with the figure.

The SHMI compares the number of people who die after care at a trust, in hospital or within 30 days of discharge, with the number expected given how ill the patients were. A value of 1.00 means as expected. NHS Digital bands each acute trust as "higher than expected", "as expected", or "lower than expected".

We show the band and value exactly as published. Following NHS Digital's own guidance: the SHMI is not a measure of the quality of care, a "higher than expected" band is a flag for further investigation and not a judgement, and it must not be used to rank trusts. Specialist trusts are outside its scope.

Cancer waiting times

Source: NHS England Cancer Waiting Times. Licence: Open Government Licence v3.0. Last retrieved: 2026-08-30.

Three national standards, per trust:

We show the all-cancers figure for each. Small patient numbers can move a percentage sharply from month to month, so read the figure alongside the trend, not on its own. The cancer services pages list every trust that reports these figures, by region and by town.

How a town page is put together

A page for a specialty in a town, for example general surgery in Leeds, lists the NHS providers that treat patients from around that town and report a waiting time for that specialty. A hospital's distance is measured from the town, not from its trust's head office.

Why a trust can show a rating range

The CQC rates each hospital separately. A trust may also hold one trust-wide rating from a "well-led" inspection, but many do not have a current one. Where a trust has no single rating of its own, we show the range across its hospitals, for example "Good to Requires improvement across 5 hospitals", rather than pick one. Open the trust page for each hospital's own rating.

Contact details

Address, telephone, and website come from the CQC registration record. Where no website is on record we link to a plain web search for the provider's name so you can find it yourself. A search link is not an endorsement of whatever it returns.

Corrections

Every provider page has a report incorrect information link. If a figure is wrong at source we cannot change it here, but we will show the correction you have told us about and follow it up with the source.

Maps and place data

Maps use OpenStreetMap. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, Open Database Licence. Town coordinates come from the ONS Index of Place Names, Open Government Licence v3.0. Town population, used only to choose which of two identical town pages keeps its address and never shown on the site, comes from GeoNames, Creative Commons Attribution 4.0.
